Jaime joined LOUIS in April 2013. She joined LOUIS with ten years of experience working for the State of Louisiana at various levels.
Jaime holds a Bachelor of Arts in English with dual minors in History in Latin from Southeastern Louisiana University. While pursuing her undergraduate degree, she joined the staff of the Department of History and Political Science at Southeastern as a student assistant. After graduation, she became a full-time administrative assistant, first in Student Support Services, then again in the Department of History and Political Science. During her tenure as an administrative assistant, she gained experience in accounting, scheduling, coordinating travel, staff supervision, event planning, and grant administration.
Jaime also obtained a Master of Arts in English from Southeastern. While pursuing this degree, she joined a digital humanities project - The Early Ruskin Manuscripts, 1826-1842 - while writing her thesis. This was the impetus for her interest in the digital humanities, coding, web design, and development.
Jaime moved onto "library school" from there. She obtained her Masters in Library and Information Sciences from the University of Southern Mississippi in December 2012. She also moved from administrative assistant to library specialist in Acquisitions at Sims Memorial Library at this time. There she got an insider's view of library collection development, more accounting and administrative experience than she ever wanted (just kidding!), and first-time experience in library planning. Combining library school with actual library work was one of the best experiences of her life, and taught her that she was definitely where she wanted to be!
Since joining LOUIS, she has expanded her experience and interests to include cataloging (it's a different form of coding, right?), member outreach, communications, training, and much, much more. She has become the LOUIS "social butterfly", managing the organization's social media accounts, as well as "that email girl". She's okay with that! So catch her on Facebook, Twitter, or via email.
Jaime also remained an active participant in digital humanities projects, moving from the Ruskin Project to The Book of Margery Kemp project. She has also continued to pursue her interest in web design and development, learning new frameworks like Bootstrap, and new programming languages like JavaScript and jQuery. Jaime's favorite thing in life is to learn, learn, learn!
